Visiting Roots

Had a great 4 days visiting Sumatra Barat. landed at Padang's Minangkabau Bandara after taking the early morning Airasia flight from KLIAon the 30th of May. Altogether there were 27 of us, 26 flew from KLIA while Azley Sulaiman joined us at Padang from Jakarta.

We left home rather early, even before Subuh prayer (which we did at the Dengkil R&R). The flight was scheduled at 0750 but as usual was delayed for about 25 minutes.  We ultimately boarded the plane at 0815 and it was airborne at 0830. We landed at Padang's Minangkabau Bandara at  0820 (local time) which was actually 0920. Immigration clearance was quite a slow process and by the time all of us were cleared, all the bags were placed at one corners of the baggage area. There were people waiting for us as Haji Kamaruddin had arranged five suvs for our transportation and a van for baggage carrier.

Having had nothing to eat, the stop at rumah makan Lamun Ombak on the way to Padang Panjang was a welcome relief. What we had was more of lunch than breakfast. Every thing in sight were gobbled. Padang food seemed so delicious. There were ayam goreng, rabuang masak lomak, jariang lomak, sambal belut besides the traditional randang and other masak lomak items (or yellow river as we call them). We ate as if we had not eaten for days.

With our tummies filled to the hearts content with Padang fare, we continued our journey heading towards Padang Gantiang (Padang Genting). It was to be another 3 hours journey. About half an hour up the hill road towards Bukittinggi was a beautiful waterfall called Air Mancur (flowing water) at a place called Lembah Anai. We stopped for some photographs.
